C.A.R.E. Education

CARE is an acronym for model legislation:

Cultivate All (human) Rights Empathy

Empathy is the soul of strong democracies, nurturing families, ethical businesses, public education, every major world religion, and the core value of human rights. Children are raised by their communities to nurture others for democracy or bully others for autocracy. It's time caring citizens add teaching our children to CARE about human rights to the academic standards of grades K-12.

Public Education of Human Rights Empathy Is Our Moral Duty

CARE Education model legislation teaches future caring citizens the foundation of the business legal principle called "the duty to care." The solution to our mutual concerns doesn't make sense unless one is committed to governing our lives with empathy for and responsibility to humanity. And according to cognitive science, all ideas are physical. Therefore, these core value ideas won't enter the brains of Americans unless we CARE and make human rights empathy central to constant public discourse and public education.

CARE Education Model Legislation

CARE Education amends a state's legal code for academic standards to include the cultivation of empathy and the teaching of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for grades kindergarten through twelve.

Historical Context

In 1945, after World War II, US President Harry Truman from the Democratic Party appointed Vermont Senator Warren Austin from the Republican Party to serve as the United States ambassador to the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco. In addition, Truman's Secretary of State recruited 14 USA Civil Society organization members - 11 Rotarians and 3 Lions. The Rotary and Lions Club members made two major contributions to the UN Charter. The first was to change the UN Charter's Preamble opening sentence from "We the Members States of the United Nations" to "We the People of the United Nations." The second was to give themselves a seat at the United Nations by creating the Economic and Social Council, where 80% of the United Nations' humanitarian work is done. Three years later, in 1948, Ambassador Austin cast the YES vote for the United States when meeting in Paris, France. Here's the Preamble language:
